Standing Poses - The Yogic or subtle physiology

Chakras

  • Prime Muladhara.  – To survive connection with the ground - All standing asanas tend to be grounding if awareness is placed on the feet, honoring the connection between your body and the Earth.  Standing asana demand for us to be grounded as the require us to be strongly connected to the ground.   Engaging the pelvic floor aids the base chakra, Mooladhara
  • Anahata - greater capacity for courage, self-confidence, love, calm, and feeling of security.  As it works on opening the heart region (chest) it activates the Anahata Chakra.
  • Manipura Chakra - Strength and ease is required, often standing poses are challenging to the will when an asana is maintained for a period of time… Manipura chakra 

Nadis - Helps the clearing of the nadis, as there is a constant demand on the spine to be straight shumna clearing
 
Gunas = stimulating, heating (rajastic), but all three should be at play. Rajastic, Tamas & Sattva

Koshas

  • Annamaya Kosha Food or material body. Where most people are working from.
  • Manomaya Kosha The mental body. People some what work from here, but this where beginners in yoga work from
  • Pranayama Kosha The vital energy body. This is where the breath works and energy flows. The next step of yoga.
  • Vijnanamaya Kosha Higher mental body, becoming the observer, to live reality.
