Variations, Precautions and Contraindications

Precautions

• The arms can remain bent at the elbow, or straightened,
• Hands may be underneath the shoulders or forward of this line if the spine is stiff;
• Feet together or apart;
• Cushions to support body in slightly flexed position if the spine has degenerated due to age;
• The gaze of the eyes may be forward or towards the ceiling;

The pose is contraindicated in the case of:

• Back injury or significant tenderness in the lower back;
• Carpal tunnel syndrome or painful wrists;
• Headache
• Pregnancy and menstruation.
