Describe some of the more common treatments currently employed to assist with the pregnancy
Many negative symptoms of pregnancy, both physical and emotional,
can be avoided or reduced with a combination of the common treatments employed. In addition to Yoga, these common treatments to assist pregnant women include, but are not restricted to:
• Prenatal checkups, which will probably be monthly at this point – Doctor checkup to ensure the health of the mother and baby;
• Childbirth education classes – education to ensure the mother is fully informed of what to expect with the progress with the pregnancy and child birth and beyond;
• Massage – helps to release tension. Massage particularly serves to heighten circulation to the skin by increasing blood flow to the veins and surface capillaries, promoting better cellular nutrition and elimination;
• Reiki - Reiki is a non invasive spiritually guided life-force involving the laying of hands, to promote the bodies natural healing process;
• Acupressure - Various disorders of pregnancy can be helped utilizing acupuncture as modalities to aide in rebalancing the body's energy and blood to achieve a healthy state;
• Physiotherapy - Mobilisation of the joints, massage and stretches of the tight muscles by a physiotherapist can be highly effective in helping reduce the aches and pains of pregnancy;
• Low-impact aerobic exercise – swimming, walking - these techniques ensure the abundant supply of oxygen and work on her fitness during pregnancy;
• Dietician – a dietician can advise the correct foods to eat and what to avoid;
• Chiropractic - During the course of pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes innumerable changes biochemically and structurally which can create postural strain and neck and back pain that can be assisted by chiropractic treatment; and
• Counseling – there are lots of ups and downs as well as unknowns with pregnancy and accordingly some women can benefit from professional counseling.
